I) Information
1) What is the Hochschulisches Gesundheitsmanagement (HGM) [university health management]?
The HGM is committed to the health of employees and students at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU). Existing health-related measures at HU are consolidated in one place and new offers are initiated based on needs. The aim is to promote a healthy university through sustainable structures, enabling all members of the university to teach, research, work, and study in a healthy environment. Further information on the HGM can be found at www.hgm.hu-berlin.de
2) Who is conducting the HGM ‘flash survey’?
The Department of Sports Medicine at the Institute of Sport Science at HU is responsible for the scientific research and evaluation within the HGM. Prof. Dr. Bernd Wolfarth as project leader and Pia Knothe as research associate are responsible for the flash survey.
3) Purpose of data collection
The ’flash survey’ examines the current practice, perception, and assessment of integrating movement into university teaching at HU Berlin from the students' perspective. It also investigates potential barriers to integrating movement into teaching.
The aim of the survey is to highlight developments in movement-promoting teaching at HU and to derive and further develop measures for health promotion and prevention. To monitor these developments over time, the ‘flash survey’ is conducted at several points in time. Participation is possible either once or on multiple occasions.
In addition, the data collection and processing also serve scientific research purposes - for example, for theses or publications in relevant academic journals. The focus is on questions related to movement-oriented teaching in the context of higher education, as well as the mental and physical health of university members.
4) Voluntary consent
Participation in the survey and the answers to all questions are voluntary. If you wish to withdraw from participation, you can do so at any time without providing reasons. There are no disadvantages or consequences for you due to non-participation or withdrawal.
5) Information on data protection and processing of your data
The survey is conducted using the online survey software LimeSurvey, provided by the Computer and Media Service (CMS) of HU, on HU’s servers. At the beginning of the survey, a personal code is generated to allow pseudonymized linkage of individual data across multiple survey time points. No personally identifiable information that directly identifies you is collected and processed. IP addresses are not stored, and tokens are not used. The survey data includes responses related to the topics mentioned in point 3, as well as sociodemographic characteristics such as age, gender or course semester.
After completion of the survey, the research data will be stored and processed by the Department of Sports Medicine at the Institute of Sport Science at HU on a secure server at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, in accordance with the principles of good scientific practice, for a period of 10 years and deleted from HU’s servers.
Access to the research data is limited to the scientists mentioned in point 2. Other project team members from the Department of Sports Medicine may also be involved in data processing. All individuals with access to the research data and/or entrusted with the processing of the survey data are bound to confidentiality and compliance with data protection requirements. No data will be passed on to other HU departments or unauthorized third parties. The data will not be linked with other university data sets. The personal codes are used solely for the repeated survey series on movement in university teaching at HU.
The survey results are anonymised and will only be published in aggregated form, ensuring that individuals cannot be identified. Groups with fewer than 10 individuals will not be presented separately but will be included in broader analyses. Analyses based on sociodemographic characteristics will only be conducted when each subgroup contains at least 10 individuals.
6) Publication of the results
The survey results will be presented to internal university committees and made publicly available on the HGM website (www.hgm.hu-berlin.de). In addition, key findings will be processed into theses and academic publications by the Department of Sports Medicine at the Institute of Sport Science. Information about these studies will be published on the HGM homepage once the survey is complete.
II) Consent to participation and data processing
In order to participate in the ‘flash survey’, it is necessary for you to give your consent to the processing of your data and information about your health situation.
(1) I hereby consent to the processing of my data as part of the ‘flash survey’ by the Department of Sports Medicine at the Institute of Sport Science at HU Berlin.
By participating in the survey, I agree to the conditions mentioned above and confirm that I have understood the following:
(2) My participation is voluntary, and I can withdraw from participation at any time without suffering any disadvantages.
(3) My responses will be collected pseudonymously. The analysis will be conducted in an anonymized and aggregated form, so that no conclusions about individual persons can be drawn. In particular, publications will be made only in a way that individual persons cannot be identified.
